Pixie Image Management
One of Pixie's strongest features is it's image management capabilities. It
features optionally persistant thumbnails in three different sizes and sorting
in both ascending and descending order based on filename, size, or date. There
is full file management support with both a tree view for selecting directories
and all necessary file operations such as copy, move, and rename accessible
right in the thumbnail browser using either drag and drop or the menus. Pixie
can also work transparently with the KDE file manager, Konqueror. And there
are many features aimed at people managing large amounts of images such as image
preview and "Hotlist" support. Quite a powerful way to manage your
pictures in KDE2 :)
Let's take a closer look at the image thumbnail manager. Here is the main thumbnail management window:
![]()
The top toolbar gives you the Options menu where you can select things like thumbnail size and sort order, a button to move up and go to your home folder, a reload button (which doesn't generate thumbnails), a thumbnail button (which does ;-), and a new window button. If you open more than one Pixie thumbnail window you can drag and drop between them.
The second toolbar let's you enter the folder you want to browse manually instead of clicking on directories in the browser window.
On the upper left is a window where you can select either to switch to folders quickly using a tree view or utilize the "Hotlist". More on the Hotlist next.
The lower left gives you a preview window. If enabled it lets you see an image full size before loading it up in the Pixie main window. A single click on an image puts it in the preview, a double click loads it into the main window.
The right is taken by the thumbnail browser. In addition to just displaying thumbnails all usual file operations one would expect in a file manager are supported here. You can change directories, copy, rename, drag and drop with the file manager and other Pixie windows, etc...
HotList Support
Users, especially those managing webpages, have a lot of images they need to
sort through and organize. In order to make this easier Pixie supports "HotList"
management. This lets you mark frequently used folders and always have them
easily accessible for copying and moving files, switching to, etc...
As you can see in the above screenshot, the upper left of the window has a tab
where you can select the "HotList" view. Doing so gives you this instead
of the tree view:

I have my mine set up to allow me easy access to my main webpage, Pixie site, wallpaper directory, and where I edit images. Your home folder is always in the HotList by default.Once a folder is in the HotList, you can either copy or move files from anywhere on your hard drive by dragging them on one of the items. Clicking on an item switches you to that item's folder.
Once complete you can easily copy or move items to that folder from anyplace on your computer by drag and drop either from Pixie windows or from the KDE file manager. You can also access the HotList by using the RMB on files:
